Misch Bobrick Design was pleased to participate in this year’s St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Decorators’ Show House & Gardens at the Schnull-Rauch House. This year we were asked to design and renovate three areas. Our work was showcased in the Music Room, the Butler’s Pantry and the Kitchen.
The spaces that contain the kitchen and butler’s pantry had been used as an office and as a small kitchenette. This total transformation into a modern functional catering kitchen takes design cues from the rest of the homes woodwork and details. The beaded cabinet doors echo the lovely handwork in the dining room as do the leaded glass inserts. This kitchen seamlessly integrates the most up to date appliances and systems into this historic context. The spectacular stone counter tops glisten in the light streaming through the two huge windows. The porcelain tile floor is easy to maintain, a must for a commercial space. We added some architectural details to bring this room to life, as most had been stripped away over the years. Because this one room has five doors and two windows, space planning was critical to creating a workable kitchen. The design makes the most of this challenging situation. The designers used the molding details and paint colors to accent the great ceiling height, adding to the sense of volume. A grandly scaled chandelier is centered in the room. We received the first place award from The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for these rooms. We also received a People’s Choice Award for the kitchen.
In the Music Room, a magnificent stone floor of black and white marble squares provides a perfect background for a grand piano . The piano, equipped with the latest electronics and technology, plays itself. The glorious sound echoes through the house. The room contains a collection of brass wind instruments and a cello, ready at a moments notice for a recital. The Eighteenth Century style English wood furniture complements the gleaming black lacquer of the piano. A pair of comfortable armchairs covered in black and white cut velvet sit by the fireplace. We received the coveted Maggies Award from the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild for our work in this space.
