Architectural Detailing

Architectural Detailing

A plain shaft of drywall was not a good enough  backdrop for our design, so we added layers of architectural detailing to bring it in line with the newly renovated space. Oversize moldings are needed in a very tall room, and this downtown penthouse in a high rise building has very tall ceilings. A ‘chair rail’ divides the lower panel from the upper. Framing a huge leaf patterned wall sconce, the upper panel terminates in a dramatic crown that continues around the room. It also creates a pocket to tuck the drapery rods out of sight, making a clean line from floor to ceiling. The moldings and wall are lacquered in different finishes of the same color from semi gloss to satin.
